If you don’t know anything about Harry Potter, don’t bother reading the rest of this, because it won’t make any sense.
I was thinking back about the Potter series and I had a startling realization about the plot of the Goblet of Fire. Remember how Voldermort orchestrated an amazingly complex scheme to make sure that Harry won the contest so he’d touch the cup and be transported to the cemetery. Well here’s the plot problem I have: Why would Voldermort go to all that trouble and risk the fact that Harry might not win the contest? He already had a man on the inside, so why not just tell Moody to hand Harry a freaking portkey?
We know the answer in reality: because then the book would only be 100 pages and not nearly as interesting. But I’m surprised at such a plot hole, and equally surprised that I’ve never noticed it before.
Oh no! I’m going to let the geek side of me show and say that I was very saddened today to hear that Majel Roddenberry died. She was the wife of the creator of the Star Trek series. She had a role on the show and she was the computer voice since the beginning.
We’ll get to hear her one last time though, as she will be the computer voice in the upcoming movie.
I saw No Country for Old Men today, only because it was winning so many awards. But after seeing it, here’s my reaction: it sucked. I tend to have this reaction to those “award winning” movies, so maybe I’m just too different from the mainstream to appreciate films like this. I have a lot of complaints about this steaming pile, but I will give away the plot if I do. So I will do so in an extended entry. You’ll have to click to read more, but do so at your own spoiler risk…
I had an adventure tonight. There is a new movie coming out next month called Reno 911: Miami. I definitely wanted to go see it. It is based on the tv show on Comedy Central, which spoofs COPS, and it’s quite funny and mostly improv’d. Well my friend Wade told me that they were having a special screening today, and we were able to get in! And the best part was that two of the actors from the show and movie were there! And we got a picture taken with one of them! Here we are…she purposely made sure here prosthetic badadonkadonk butt was rubbing against me in the shot. I love her pose…you can tell she’s used to photos.

Ha ha, Jackass #2 Top’s U.S. Box Office. Whatever reviewers might have to say about it, all Jackass promises to do is make you either laugh or be sick, and it certainly made me laugh (and I almost got sick!). It’s one movie where I’m glad I didn’t have popcorn.
I saw the new Pirates of the Carribean last night, and I have to say I was not impressed. The action scenes were great, but the whole movie was pretty much a commercial for the 3rd movie coming out next year. There is absolutely no conclusion to this movie. Nothing gets resolved at all. I know it was the same kind of thing with Lord of the Rings, but at least in those movies something got finished in each one, AND we all knew it was a trilogy. But I had no idea that was going to happen in this one, so I wasn’t pleased. But now that you know the movie has no ending, perhaps you will like it more.
I just saw Superman last night, and I loved it! It was a great movie. They spent a lot of time, like they did in Spiderman 1, building up the characters, so I look forward to hopefully a sequel.
I saw X-Men 3 last night. It was amazing! I am one of those people who can almost always predict plot twists, but they just kept on with their constant shock and awe. I had no idea where it was going next. And that is reason enough to like a movie, in my opinion.
